Gibson Announces Jimmy Page 1964 SJ-200 Acoustic Guitars

Jimmy Page and Gibson have unveiled the 1964 SJ-200 and 1964 SJ-200 Collector’s Edition signature model acoustic guitars.

Crafted by the luthiers of the Gibson Custom Shop in Bozeman, Montana, the new signature models are replicas of the SJ-200 acoustic guitar that Page played on Led Zeppelin’s self-titled debut album. He was also seen playing an SJ-200 when he performed “White Summer/Black Mountain Side” during a rare solo TV appearance on the “Julie Felix Show” on April 26th, 1970.

The standard Jimmy Page 1964 SJ-200 is limited to 100 and touts a striking Cherry Tea sunburst finish with highly flamed AAA maple for the back and sides, plus AAA Sitka spruce for the top. The Super Jumbo body has multi-ply binding on the top and back and is slightly deeper than a standard SJ-200 at the neck joint, giving it different sound characteristics than other SJ-200s.

The 3-piece neck is also of highly flamed maple, featuring a round profile, a bound rosewood fretboard with 20 standard frets, and mother-of-pearl Graduated Crown inlays. Other appointments include the ’60s-style, solid rosewood Moustache bridge plate, adorned with ’60s-style mother-of-pearl hourglass and teardrop inlays, and a gold Tune-O-Matic bridge with nylon saddles. On the bound headstock are gold Kluson Waffleback tuners with Keystone buttons. In addition, Jimmy Page personally hand-signed the soundhole label of each SJ-200, and the guitars were aged by Gibson’s Murphy Lab according to “Page’s exacting standards and recollection.”

Meanwhile, the 1964 SJ-200 Collector’s Edition is limited to only 50, and it features Page’s signature on the back of the headstock and was physically played by the legendary guitarist. Otherwise, it shares the same specs as the previously described model. Both the SJ-200 and SJ-200 Collector’s Edition come in a hardshell case bearing the “Zoso” logo, a Gibson “The Garden” vintage-style strap, and an extra Tune-O-Matic bridge with gold-plated brass saddles. The Collector’s Edition also comes with a pickholder with a pick used by Jimmy Page and a handcrafted Gibson wooden guitar stand.

The SJ-200 signature model retails for $12,999, while the Collector’s Edition runs $19,999. You can buy one via Gibson’s website or Reverb.
