Country Music star Jelly Roll, whose real name is Jason DeFord, announced on Sunday that he was quitting the social media network X (formerly known as Twitter) after calling Elon Musk’s network the “most toxic negative app to exist ever.” His account was already posting again before 9 am the next morning.
In Jelly Roll’s defense, the8 post that went out at 8:57 AM this morning was promoting ‘The Beautifully Broken Tour’ stop at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on November 26th. It has a link to purchase tickets with information about the concert. Everything about it reads like a promotional post that was scheduled far in advance and 100% not like something that Jelly Roll himself would have posted.
The post about quitting Elon Musk’s X came after a series of messages shared/re-shared on X following the 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony that Jelly Roll was part of. One of the posts that he shared was this picture of himself with Red Hot Chili Pepper’s Chad Smith, Jack Black, and others:

8 minutes after sharing that photo, where everyone in the comments seems to be bringing up Jack Black, Jelly Roll posted this message to X announcing his imminent departure. He wrote:
“This is for sure the most toxic negative app to exist ever — PERIOD. lol. This place is different man, I always heard it was the Wild West on here but man it’s insane . It’s a safe place for everyone to say mean s— to each other with no consequences. I’m out lol”
This is a man who has been to jail multiple times throughout his teens and 20s. Jelly Roll, a man who has been behind bars, thinks that X is the “most toxic negative app to ever exist” and can’t take it.
Here is his performance from the ceremony:

Now stop and think about why any of us bother spending time on there when 50% of the promoted ‘for you’ posts we see on X are completely and utter garbage? I’ve been spending a LOT more time on Threads lately. Find me there under @cassanderson and find BroBible at @BroBible as well. Threads is doing a SIGNIFICANTLY better job at surfacing content I actually want to see. My feed is full of people fishing, sharing experiences from Phish, and about interests I actually have.
Compare that to X where they promote what they want us to see versus what they think we want to see based on all the negative engagement the top posts get…
