Zayn Malik postpones tour dates after Liam Payne's death

Zayn Malik postponed the US leg of his upcoming tour after Liam Payne’s death.

The 31-year-old “Pillowtalk” singer shared the news on his Instagram Stories Saturday, four days before the tour was set to begin in San Francisco on Oct. 23.

“Given the heartbreaking loss experienced this week, I’ve made the decision to postpone the U.S. leg of the Stairway to the Sky Tour,” Malik wrote in a statement.

“The dates are being rescheduled for January and I’ll post them as soon as it’s all set in the next few days,” he said, adding, “Your tickets remain valid for the new dates. Love you all and thank you for understanding.”

Malik announced his first-ever solo tour back in September, in support of his fourth studio album, “Room Under the Stairs,” which came out in May.

“STAIRWAY TO THE SKY TOUR 2024. Appreciate your patience, love, and support. Can’t wait to enjoy great music together,” he wrote on Instagram two months ago. “This time I really mean soon 😂 see you in 35 days….”

The seven shows on the U.S. leg will now take place in early 2025, meaning Malik’s tour will begin with the European leg. His first show is in Edinburgh, Scotland on November 20.

Malik broke his silence on Payne’s death on Thursday. The late star tragically fell to his death from a hotel balcony in Argentina on Wednesday. He was 31.

“Liam, I have found myself talking out loud to you, hoping you can hear me, I can’t help but think selfishly that there were so many more conversations for us to have in our lives,” Malik wrote, alongside a photo of himself and Payne appearing to cuddle while sleeping on a tour bus.

“I never got to thank you for supporting me through some of the most difficult times in my life. When I was missing home as a 17 yr old kid you would always be there with a positive outlook and reassuring smile and let you know. that you were my friend and I was loved,” Malik went on.

He continued, “Even though you were younger than me you were always more sensible than me you were headstrong, opinionated, and gave no f–ks about telling people when they were wrong. Even though we butted heads because of this a few times, I always secretly respected you for it.”

Malik ended his statement by saying he will “cherish” his memories with Payne and that he’s “beyond devastated” over his former bandmate’s death. “I hope that wherever you are right now you are good and are at peace and you know how loved you are,” he added.

The members of One Direction — Malik, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan — also put out a joint statement reacting to Payne’s death.

“In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say. But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly,” they said.

Payne rose to fame alongside Malik, Styles, Horan and Tomlinson after the group was formed on “The X Factor” in 2010.

The group released four albums until Malik announced his departure from the band in March 2015. They released one last record before their indefinite 2016 hiatus.

Payne and Malik had an up and down relationship over the years. Payne said in 2022 on Logan Paul’s “Impaulsive” podcast that there were “many reasons” why he dislikes Malik.

He ended up apologizing for the comments a month later.

“I was saying that there will always be things we disagree on but that I will always, always be on his side,” Payne shared via X in June 2022. “That’s family. Zayn is my brother and I will stand by him forever.”
