The Offspring on SUPERCHARGED Album, Smash 30th Anniversary

The Offspring just unleashed their 11th studio album, SUPERCHARGED, which comes 30 years after the release of their breakout third album, the multiplatinum Smash.

Heavy Consequence caught up with frontman Dexter Holland and guitarist Noodles backstage at the recent Louder Than Life festival in Louisville, Kentucky. In the video interview above, the founding Offspring members discuss the new album and the 30th anniversary of Smash, along with their onstage performances with Ed Sheeran, Yungblud, and Brian May, among other topics.

Regarding the band’s approach heading into the recording of SUPERCHARGED, Holland told us, “I think we were just fired up after the last record … we had wanted to get out a record quickly this time. So, it was just that energy and that excitement, and looking around and saying, ‘Alright, let’s go for it. Let’s charge it!.”

As for their memories of recording Smash, Noodles noted, “I remember there was a big earthquake one night after we got home from the studio. I think that tension kind of added to the energy of the record. We recorded in North Hollywood, and driving through L.A. traffic, just the angst and anger and tension adds to the music … ‘Bad Habit’ would be a pretty good example of that.”

Elsewhere in the interview, the pair talk about seeing fellow punk bands Sum 41 and NOFX call it a day, with Noodles remarking, “It’s sad to see these friends of ours, and legends, go away.”

The Offspring will play Punk in the Park in San Diego on November 16th and the ALTerEgo fest in Los Angeles on January 11th. The band also has dates in South America, Japan, the UK, and Europe mapped out throughout 2025 (pick up tickets here).
