Lucinda Williams has revealed Lucinda Williams Sings The Beatles From Abbey Road, the seventh and latest volume in her Lu’s Jukebox series. Set to release on Dec. 6 via Thirty Tigers, the anthological record features 12 interpreted tracks spanning eras and albums from the Fab Four’s catalog. To preview her first jukebox collection in nearly four years, Williams has released the record’s first single, “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” on streaming platforms.

Lucinda Williams Sings The Beatles From Abbey Road is the seventh iteration of the pandemic favorite Lu’s Juxebox series, and arrives following interpretations of Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones and more. In the spirit of the Fab Four, Williams chose to take her tributes to the next level by recording at London’s iconic Abbey Road Studios. “Something,” then, is Williams singing from Abbey Road from Abbey Road, which marks the first time another major artist has recorded selections from The Beatles’ catalog at the landmark venue.

Williams bookends the record with love for the Liverpool lads’ late works: she kicks off the project with a version of beloved “Get Back” b-side “Don’t Let Me Down,” then moves through “Let It Be” and “I’ve Got A Feeling” before coming to a close with “The Long and Winding Road.”  Like Let It Be, 1968’s The Beatles (The White Album) is also prominent throughout the project, with “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” “Yer Blues” and “I’m So Tired.” While the two seminal records ground the project, the eclectic tracklist works in odd ends from other eras, from hits like “Can’t Buy Me Love” and “With A Little Help from My Friends,” to deep cuts “Rain” and “I’m Looking Through You.”

Williams is set to return to the stage on Oct. 17, for Life is a Carnival: A Musical Celebration of Robbie Robertson, then continue her fall tour in November, with a Nov. 9 show at Port Chester, N.Y.’s The Capitol Theatre. She will close out the year in the Big Apple for Jesse Malin’s comeback benefit at the Beacon Theatre on Dec. 1 and 2.
