10 New Albums to Stream Today: Charli XCX, The Offspring

Each week, Consequence rings in New Music Friday by highlighting new albums to stream. As October rolls along, there’s plenty of new music to check out.

This week’s highlights feature a remix of Charli XCX’s iconic Brat album, a deluxe edition of Duran Duran’s Danse Macabre, and fresh music from rising artists like The Linda Lindas and our October CoSign Chat Pile. Plus, The Offspring release their 11th studio album, while Dawes mark a new era with their first album with only the Goldsmith brothers as members.

Here are 10 new albums to stream today.

Charli XCX – Brat and it’s completely different but also still brat

The clue is in the name; it’s the album you know and love, but remixed. With this new version of Brat, Charli XCX has assembled an impressive array of guests, from her current tour co-headliner Troye Sivan to Ariana Grande, Bon Iver, The 1975, and The Japanese House. Brat Summer is definitively dead (long live Brat Summer), but the Brat era continues its reign. Revisit our review of Charli XCX and Troye Sivan’s ongoing “Sweat” tour here.

Chat Pile – Cool World

Chat Pile have returned with their new album Cool World, the act’s sophomore effort and followup to 2022’s exhilarating God’s Country. Out via The Flenser, Cool World finds the Oklahoma City noise rockers honing in on more immediate compositions, though the tones and performances are as abrasive and unhinged as ever.

Dawes – Oh Brother

Dawes are back with a new album (aptly) titled Oh Brother, their first record after the departure of longtime bandmates Wylie Gelber and Lee Pardini. Now, with just brothers Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith at the helm, Oh Brother begins a new era for the California band while also reprising their warm, nostalgic folk rock. We caught up with the brothers earlier this year at Moon Crush in Florida for a special game of Mixtapes, which you can watch here.

Duran Duran – Danse Macabre De Luxe

Last year, ’80s pop group Duran Duran released Danse Macabre, a Halloween-themed album full of spooky covers and a thrillingly dark energy. A year later, the band has released a deluxe edition with three new tracks, including a cover of Electric Light Orchestra’s “Evil Woman.” Arriving just in time for Halloween and featuring the band’s signature new wave style, this deluxe album is all treats and no tricks. The band will support the release by embarking on a run of tour dates this month.

The Linda Lindas – No Obligation

The young punk extraordinaires The Linda Lindas are back with No Obligation, their sophomore album. Written and recorded by the quartet in between global tours and school semesters, the album leaps off their originally minimalist punk palette and incorporates various other styles: new wave, post-punk, power pop, and rock en español, to name a few. No matter the ingredients, though, The Linda Lindas have a sound entirely of their own.

La Femme – Rock Machine

The French group waved “Ciao Paris!” on the lead single of Rock Machine, making the trek to a brand new corner of the weird, wacky La Femme universe. Rock Machine serves as their first release entirely in English, and the album is full of big risks and even bigger personalities. It’s retro, it’s the future, it’s La Femme.

The Offspring – SUPERCHARGED

Luckily for fans of The Offspring, it only took three years for the band to drop a new record — much better than the nine-year gap they took between 2012’s Days Go By and 2021’s Let the Bad Times Roll. The new album, SUPERCHARGED, marks the long-running punk act’s 11th full-length studio album and aims for pure, unadulterated energy.

RÜFÜS DU SOL – Inhale / Exhale

The Australian electronic trio makes a major return this week with Inhale / Exhale, their fifth album and the beginning of a new era for RÜFÜS DU SOL. They’ve resurrected their signature dark, moody style while letting a bit more light in, as evidenced by the utopian single “Music Is Better.” Now over a decade since they first emerged, RÜFÜS are continuing to up the ante with each release — after all, they’re one of the most hyped electronic acts in the world for a reason.

Samara Joy – Portrait

If anyone is able to capture the cozy energy of fall, it’s jazz vocalist Samara Joy, who returns today with her third full-length album. Portrait, the Grammy winner told Consequence, offered the most hands-on experience of her career; she was involved in all the details, from the arrangements to the recordings and the hand-painted album artwork. See what albums Joy named as essential to creating the perfect autumn playlist here.

Touché Amoré – Spiral in a Straight Line

Melodic hardcore/screamo outfit Touché Amoré are back with a brand new album, Spiral in a Straight Line. The project doesn’t just arrive as a standard new collection of Touché Amoré songs, however, as it also boasts notable contributions from Lou Barlow of Dinosaur Jr./Sebadoh fame and boygenius’ Julien Baker (who also previously guested on the band’s 2020 effort Lament, as well as 2016’s Stage Four).
