Julian Marley's Amapiano Grammy Submission Reinforces Genre's Global Rise

Renowned reggae artist Julian Marley, the son of the legendary Bob Marley, is eyeing another Grammy win—but his sights are now set on dance music.

Marley in 2023 nabbed the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album for Colors of Royal alongside Antaeus, who became the first Greek-born music creator to win a Grammy. The duo has now submitted another record for the upcoming 67th Grammy Awards, their Amapiano remix of “Jah Sees Them.”

It’s a big moment not only for the producers, but also the Amapiano genre, which has surged in popularity on a global scale. A sultry blend of deep house, jazz and lounge music, the South African house music phenomenon offers a fresh, culturally rich alternative to mainstream electronic dance music.

As international DJs and producers continue to embrace Amapiano, they are poised to reshape dancefloors and prove that innovation in dance music knows no borders.

“This remix echoes our team’s dedication to creating timeless music that connects with listeners across generations,” Antaeus said in a statement. “The track is a testament to our commitment to push the envelope and create sounds that resonate with the heart and soul, transcending borders.”

A stunning fusion of Amapiano, Afrobeats and dancehall, Marley’s remix of “Jah Sees Them” will be considered in the category of Best Remixed Recording in the Pop & Dance/Electronic Field. Antaeus worked alongside Footsteps and MrMyish to produce the record prior to its release by Monom Records, and he handled its mixing and mastering alongside Grammy-winning audio engineers Joe Maldonado and Alex Psaroudakis.

The Recording Academy’s First Round Voting period for the 2025 Grammys opens Friday, October 4th. The nominations will then be revealed on November 8th before Final Round Voting from December 12th, 2024, to January 3rd, 2025.

The 67th Grammy Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place Sunday, February 2nd live at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena.
