Lady Gaga has announced Harlequin, a companion album to the upcoming film Joker: Folie à Deux. The album is set for release this Friday, September 27th — one week before the movie will open in theaters worldwide on October 4th.
In the Todd Phillips-directed Joker: Folie à Deux, Gaga plays Harley Quinn opposite Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck / the Joker. The film has been described as a jukebox musical, featuring covers of jazz standards like “Get Happy,” “That’s Life,” “Oh, When the Saints,” and Frank Sinatra’s “I’ve Got the World On a String.” All of these songs are included on the tracklist for Gaga’s Harlequin, as are several originals.
Harlequin marks Gaga’s first new album since Chromatica in 2020. She previously announced plans to release an album of fully original material in 2025. On social media, Gaga is referring to Harlequin as LG6.5, distinguishing it from the 2025 release, which she has described as LG7 (her seventh album). Back in August, she teamed up with Bruno Mars for the standalone single, “Die With a Smile.”
