The xx have teamed up for the first time since 2017 on Jamie xx’s new song, “Waited All Night.” It’s the latest single from his upcoming solo album, In Waves, out this Friday, September 20th (pre-order here).
“Waited All Night” arrives after the trio performed the track at Jamie xx’s Glastonbury Festival set earlier this year. Over a skittering two-step beat, Romy and Oliver Sim trade verses about romantic connection. Stream it below.
“Thank you to my two best friends and musical siblings, Oliver and Romy,” Jamie xx said in a statement. “It’s wonderful to have the gang back together, working in new ways, working out new lives, I wouldn’t be here without them.”
Romy and Sim added, “We’ve loved collaborating on our recent solo projects but it’s been a while since the three of us came together on one track. We’re so pleased that this was the place we met up again. Proud to play a small part in this long awaited, brilliant album. We’re your biggest fans Jamie!”
“Waited All Night” is the first time Jamie xx, Romy, and Sim have appeared on the same track since The xx’s 2017 album, I See You. Since then, Romy and Sim have released their respective solo projects MID AIR and Hideous Bastard. Earlier this year, however, Romy confirmed The xx were back in the studio working on a new album.
In Waves also features the previously released singles “All You Children” with The Avalanches, “Life” featuring Robyn, “Treat Each Other Right,” and “Baddy on the Floor.” Pre-orders for the vinyl and CD releases are ongoing.
