Josh Tillman has announced his new album as Father John Misty, Mahashmashana, available Friday, November 22nd.
A more Google-friendly version of the Sanskrit word Mahāśmaśāna (महामशान), Tillman uses Mahashmashana to mean “great cremation ground, all things put going thither,” according to a statement. It’s a follow-up to 2022’s Chloë and the Next 20th Century, and features previously released singles “Screamland” and “She Cleans Me Up.” Pre-orders are ongoing.

To mark the announcement, Father John Misty has also shared the official music video for “Screamland” directed by Estefania Kröl. “The video is a visual journey through the depths of ‘Screamland,’ capturing the essence of both the music and the artists. Father John Misty blends seamlessly into the scene, becoming a part of the city, a living echo of ‘Screamland,’” Kröl said.
