Eminem to Open 2024 MTV VMAs

Eminem in 8 Mile

Eminem will be the opening act at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards on Wednesday (September 11), making his first TV appearance since releasing The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) in July. The performance at Long Island’s UBS Arena will be the rapper’s second time opening, after the 2010 appearance that began with “Not Afraid” before a Rihanna-assisted for “Love the Way You Lie.” He is currently tied with Phil Collins as the most-decorated VMAs winner in history; taking one of his eight nominations this year—which include Video of the Year, Best Hip-Hop, and Song of the Summer for “Houdini”—would put him in the lead.

Eminem last performed at the VMAs in 2022, when an NFT company presented his and Snoop Dogg’s avatars in a metaverse attended by the MTV audience. Before that, he joined Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg in 2012 to do “Forgot About Dre” and “Still D.R.E.” Other performers this year include Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, Glorilla, Camila Cabello, Rauw Alejandro, and Katy Perry, who will receive the Video Vanguard Award. Megan Thee Stallion is set to host.
