NBC is moving The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to four nights per week, falling in line with the schedule of other prominent late night shows.
Per Variety, The Tonight Show will now air new episodes Monday through Thursday, with repeats on Friday — just like The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Late Night with Seth Meyers, and The Daily Show.
Over the past few seasons, Fallon has kept up his practice of producing a Friday show by often taping two episodes on Thursday. Despite the cutback, the host will be around for several more years. In June, Fallon extended his contract with NBC through 2028.
This isn’t the first cost-cutting move NBC has made in recent months. Earlier this summer, Meyers lost his house band, the Fred Armisen-led 8G Band. The decision came months after NBC News reportedly laid off between 50 to 100 employees.
