The local music channel is bringing back its MYX VJ Search, as well as introducing a few new projects this 2024!

MANILA, Philippines – Listen up, mga batang MYX!

Just in time for its 24th anniversary, the local music channel is preparing for a relaunch as it ushers in a new generation of Filipino talent and audiences. Now called MYX Global, the brand is looking to adapt to the current times, but not without losing sight of its roots.

On Thursday, August 29, MYX Global invited members of the press as well as college organizations for a glimpse into their projects for the rest of 2024. In the meantime, the brand has been continuously catering to young people by partnering with youth-oriented events across and outside the Philippines, such as UP Fair, Aurora Fest, and Off The Books.

New seasons

Apart from its daily charts, the brand has expanded its programming to accommodate new shows, broadcasted locally and internationally, as well as streamed online through platforms like YouTube and Spotify.

For instance, P-pop and OPM fans can get access to exclusive performances and segments on MYX Hits Different, and get to know their favorite Filipino artists on a more “vulnerable” level through The Ripple podcast. Sandwich, Sponge Cola, James Reid, jikamarie, SB19, BGYO, ALAMAT, and BINI are among the featured musicians in recent episodes.

In September, performance show MYX Live is slated to return for its third season, with its lineup consisting of PLAYERTWO, FELIP, Nameless Kids, Maki, Lola Amour, Darren Espanto, Maymay Entrata, Janine, and DEMI.

MYX Global is also set to launch MYX Youtube Live, which will air their chart shows and allow for more fan interactions during live interviews.

Going global

In its pursuit of going global, the brand unveiled its new tagline, “The beat of our culture,” which is also meant to recognize promising talent within the Philippines and the diaspora.

“Right now, when we talk about Philippine music, we don’t just talk about ourselves. We also talk about Filipinos who are living outside the Philippines, who are making a name for themselves as Filipinos and as artists,” said ABS-CBN global managing director Maribel Hernaez.

Hernaez also pointed out that the pandemic has since allowed audiences and MYX Global to maximize the digital space in particular, where music and fan communities have become more “accessible.” This pivot has also made it easier for artists to break through with the help of social media.

Comebacks

With all of these changes in store, OG MYX viewers can look forward to the 2024 iterations of nostalgic MYX projects, like the MYX VJ Search which aims to discover new faces to represent the brand. The competition notably served as a launch pad for the careers of different personalities in Filipino entertainment over the years.

Ever dreamed of becoming a MYX VJ yourself? Hernaez said that MYX Global is after aspirants’ authenticity first and foremost, given that it’s a “unique trait and criteria” of the current generation.

“You don’t have to look a certain way, or speak a certain way. So long as you’re authentic, you’re a fan of music, and you like broadcasting yourself, then why not?” Hernaez told Rappler.

The MYX Music Awards is also scheduled to return in November. The last time the awards show was mounted was in 2021, when it was still held online. – Rappler.com
