Elena Vesnina in Workout Gear Readies for "Grass Court Season"

Elena Vesnina is getting her body ready for the court – in her workout gear. In a new social media post the tennis star hits the gym, showing off her fit figure in exercise clothes. “Some preparation before grass court season,” she captioned the Instagram post.  How does she approach diet, fitness, and self-care? Here is everything you need to know about her lifestyle habits.

Vesnina recently changed her approach to preparing for competition. “I changed this kind of philosophy for myself five or six years ago, it paid off a couple of years later than I thought but definitely I started to be more professional in myself, eating healthy, recovering, really focusing on some big goals,” she told The Sydney Morning Herald.

“Life in tennis is not long, but Venus and Serena are actually proving otherwise. Now women’s tennis has improved and developed so much with all the professionalism, taking care of your body,” she added.  “Everyone is travelling with a physiotherapist, massage therapist, we’re having treatment every day, we’re working a lot in the gym, our bodies are getting stronger and stronger every year.”

“We’re trying to improve strength and we’re trying to improve speed, and we’re trying to improve core, everything, stability and balance. It’s a lot of things to work, it’s a lot of things to think about but otherwise it’s such an exciting process to see your body improving, and it doesn’t matter how old you are,” she said.

Elena rides bikes when she isn’t on the court. The Cleveland Clinic explains that biking, a low-impact aerobic exercise, is great for building muscle, improving strength and flexibility, and improving balance. It can also boost mental health and help other health conditions, including arthritis.

In her recent post, Elena prepares for the “grass court season” by doing strength training exercises at the gym. According to the Mayo Clinic, strength and weight training help reduce body fat, preserve and increase lean muscle mass, and burn calories more efficiently. Strength training may also help you:

  • Develop strong bones
  • Manage your weight
  • Enhance your quality of life
  • Manage chronic conditions
  • Sharpen your thinking skills
