The legendary metal frontman explains why Megadeth have been digging deep into the depths of their catalog for their recent shows, as they’ve begun to shake up the setlist in new and exciting ways. He then touches on what guitarist Teemu Mäntysaari brings to Megadeth’s sound, how member changes redefine an act’s DNA, and the inspiration behind the song “Mission to Mars.”
Elsewhere, Mustaine teases an upcoming Tesla-related announcement that has ties to “Mission to Mars,” discusses his wider interests, and recalls covering Sammy Hagar’s “This Planet’s on Fire” with his pre-Metallica band Panic. He talks about how covering obscure songs like that helped him develop his songwriting, and that some of the originals he brought to Metallica were actually Panic tracks.
