Blake Lively’s film It Ends With Us has quadrupled its $25 million budget in its first week! It Ends With Us achieved a massive milestone on Wednesday, Aug 14, 2024, a week after it hit theaters. The film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s hit novel has crossed the century mark globally without breaking a sweat despite tough competition from Marvel juggernaut Deadpool and Wolverine.

It Ends With Us, which rolled out in select overseas markets a day or two before opening in North America on August 9 2024, continues to draw moviegoers to the theaters. While It Ends With Us debuted domestically to $50 million over the three-day weekend, It failed to topple Deadpool & Wolverine from the domestic box office charts.

The blockbuster superhero pic that stars Blake Lively’s husband, Ryan Reynolds, and Hugh Jackman outgrossed the book adaptation by four million. It Ends With Us also had an impressive overseas start, collecting $30 million for a global tally of $80 million.

Despite failing to beat Deadpool and Wolverine in its debut weekend, It Ends With Us is having a great first week. According to box office pundit, Luiz Fernando Blake Lively’s film pulled ahead of Deadpool and Wolverine on Monday and Tuesday and is currently the No. 1 film at the domestic box office.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, It Ends With Us’s domestic tally stood at $68.9 and raked in $46.6 million overseas, for a global total of $115.5 million. Despite the controversy surrounding the cast and the book, It Ends With Us seems to be thriving at the box office.

“It Ends With Us” revived the controversy surrounding Hoover’s book accused of romanticizing abuse. An op-ed published by a domestic shelters non-profit (via Today) said that one of the most popular books in the world, I’t Ends With Us’ “feeds into the very structures of toxic masculinity that it purports to combat” by glorifying a “charismatic-but-dangerous man” and “romanticizing red flags.”

Meanwhile, fans also believe there’s some drama brewing between director/actor Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively, who haven’t been pictured together in the press. Eagle-eyed nosy fans also pointed out Lively and Hoover do not follow Baldoni on Instagram but they follow each other.
