Step aside, Deadpool and Wolverine. There’s a new monster in town, all set to devour its competition to become the No. 1 movie at the worldwide box office this weekend. The latest rendition of the Ridley Scott-produced sci-fi franchise Alien: Romulus is on track to govern the global box office this weekend after the stellar reviews.

The newest entry in the iconic series that began with the original 1979 film by Ridley Scott debuted with 82% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes after 128 reviews. Alien Romulus is the third highest-rated title in the entire 45-year-old franchise, which revolves around a woman warrior (Cailee Spaeny) making her last stand against a slew of extraterrestrials.

Directed by Fede Alvarez, Alien: Romulus was praised by critics, with Empire Magazine describing the latest entry as the third-best film in the franchise. They wrote, “Fede Alvarez once again proves apt at the art of remixing with Alien: Romulus; it doesn’t have ambition or much originality, but it’s elevated by a chilling atmosphere, escalating momentum, and a resiliently fierce Cailee Spaeny.”

The buzz surrounding the new film Alien Romulus is also translating with ticket sales across the world. According to Deadline, 20th-century film Alien Romulus is tracking to earn $40 Million in U.S./Canada and another $35 Million overseas for a $75 Million global start. The projected estimates for the latest title put it slightly ahead of its predecessor Alien Covenants’ $36 million domestic start and $74 million global take, if Alien Romulus lives up to the expectations.

The Alien Romulus box office predictions indicate Disney will continue its No. 1 streak this year. 20th Century Fox is owned by Disney, which has made over $3 billion at the box office this year after Inside Out 2 and Deadpool and Wolverine crossed the billion-dollar mark globally.
