Yo La Tengo have thrown their support behind the Kamala Harris 2024 presidential campaign by auctioning off their availability for concerts benefiting the Harris-Walz ticket.
Billed as “a series of intimate acoustic concerts for individuals willing to make a sizable donation,” the band will sort and prioritize event proposals “based on the amount of your intended contribution, your location, and the band’s availability,” according to a statement. “These shows will be private with no filming allowed. So long as the band is not performing, you can photograph to your heart’s content. The audience will be at the discretion of the bidder.”
The announcement continues, “Bring Georgia, Ira, and James to your backyard for a quiet get-together with your closest friends! Book them in your living room, basement, barn, or local VFW hall for an audience of people you’ve never met in your life! The logistics are (mostly) your problem, but if you’re willing to spend big to support the Democratic ticket in 2024, Yo La Tengo will come to you. ”
While the band hasn’t specified the minimum requirement for “a sizable donation,” interested parties can make their bid through this form. Yo La Tengo has added that it would be “helpful” for the proposed events to align with their upcoming tour dates.
On that note, Yo La Tengo are already booked for a pair of shows in the Pacific Northwest before heading to the UK later this month. They’ll return to the US in September for a string of East Coast dates. See the full schedule below, and get tickets here.
Since Harris’ presidential campaign was announced in July, she’s secured the endorsement of Charli XCX and received permission from Beyoncé to use “Freedom” as her walk-out song. In addition, Megan Thee Stallion and Bon Iver have made rally appearances.
