"Indefinitely Over," Says Geordie Greep

black midi appear to have broken up — or at least gone on an “indefinite” hiatus.

The news came out over the weekend, when Geordie Greep first hinted at a breakup during an Instagram Live session. As captured by Reddit, Greep wrote in the comments: “Black midi was an interesting band that’s indefinitely over.” He added that the presumed hiatus would be “for the foreseeable future.”

Cameron Picton then confirmed the news (also via Reddit) in a since-deleted tweet. “We’d agreed to not say anything about ‘breaking up’ so I was as blindsided as everyone else last night but maybe in a different way,” he wrote. “I guess sometimes all you can say is lol.”

Picton continued, “Anyway! Starting sessions for my own record soon, looking forward — should be good, hopefully great!”

Update: In a statement (via Pitchfork), a representative for the band said, “Black Midi are on a hiatus for now while they are working on solo projects.”

Several members of black midi have set out on solo endeavors this year. Greep formed a band called Geordie Greep and The Swing Boys, while Picton started a project called Camera Picture and released a CD-only album titled 44m50s. Meanwhile, Matt Kwasniewski put out a standalone single in March.
