The Cartoon Network website has been effectively erased from the internet thanks to parent company Warner Bros. Discovery. As of Friday (August 9th), navigating to cartoonnetwork.com redirects visitors to a new landing page for Warner Bros. Discovery’s flagship streaming service Max.
“Looking for episodes of your favorite Cartoon Network shows? Check out what’s available to stream on Max,” a pop-up message reads in part. “Cable subscribers, continue to enjoy your favorite CN programming on your TV and connected apps as well!”
In a statement, a Cartoon Network representative said, “We are focusing on the Cartoon Network shows and social media where we find consumers are the most engaged and there is a meaningful potential for growth.” The spokesperson added that the Cartoon Network cable channel will continue to air 11 hours of programming from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. every day.
The Cartoon Network website previously hosted full episodes and short clips of series like Adventure Time, Craig of the Creek, Teen Titans Go!, and Steven Universe, as well as free games.
This shutdown comes one week after Warner Bros. Discovery announced it would be shuttering the cartoon streaming service Boomerang and migrating users to Max.
Paramount made a series of similar cost-cutting moves earlier this summer, shuttering the Comedy Central website and taking down the MTV News archive.
