Gregg Allman’s solo career will be commemorated this fall through the release of Gregg Allman Band – Uncle Sam’s, a full-length concert recording that also serves as the inaugural drop from the late guitarist’s personal archive on his posthumous label, Sawrite Records. The impending capture presents one of rock-and-roll’s most significant players alongside his eponymous band as they launch what will go down in history as the start of a chart-topping solo career for Allman. A first-time live release of the aforementioned show has been shared as a preview. Listen to the classic “Midnight Rider.”

Ten years out from his Allman Brother Band prime, Gregg Allman Band – Uncle Sam’s, finds the namesake returning to a set of instructions that set the Peach State band apart from the very beginning: perform at every opportunity available, whatever the time might be, and for anyone that will listen–principals which defined his status as a prolific contributor into the ’80s and beyond, with the help of former members of ABB, brothers Danny, and Frankie Toler, as well as Bruce Waibel on rhythm guitar, bassist Gregg Voorhees, percussionist Chaz Trippy, and a horn section featuring brothers Donn (sax and flute) and Larry Finney (trumpet). The ensemble harnesses their sound to melodic riffs, grandiose builds, and unexpected instrumental twists and turns across the nine-track collections. See the tracklist below.

Recorded on a sold-out evening in the coastal town of Hull, Mass., the set emulates the ambiance of a raucous crowd at Uncle Sam’s venue with an energy capture reciprocated by the staged players with fierce response firing from their instruments. A defining time for Allman’s solo career, in the wake of internal band drama and 1970s-era divisions, he noted at the time, “With my band, there’s only one cook in the kitchen.” To that claim, Allman excels on today’s set preview, a haunting acoustic rendition of “Midnight Rider.”
