Ms. Lauryn Hill Blames Media "Sensationalism" For Low Ticket Sales, Tour Cancelation

Ms. Lauryn Hill has blamed poor ticket sales caused by media “sensationalism” for the cancelation of her 2024 US co-headlining tour with Fugees.

In a statement addressing the tour’s cancelation, Hill placed the blame on the media for creating an “unfortunate portrayal” in light of her previous tour postponement in 2023.

“Last year, I faced an injury that necessitated the rescheduling of some of my shows. Regrettably, some media outlet’s penchant for sensationalism and clickbait headlines have seemingly created a narrative that has affected ticket sales for the North American portion of the tour,” Hill wrote.

“The trust and faith I have in my intentions and my commitment to my art seem to have been overshadowed by this unfortunate portrayal,” Hill continued. “I can assure you that no one is more disappointed about not being able to perform than I am.”

Hill said that her shows with Fugees scheduled in the UK and Eurpe are  “moving forward as planned” due to the fact that the audiences “not only haven’t seen the ‘Miseducation Anniversary’ performance yet, they also haven’t seen the Fugees perform together in over 25 years!”

She also expressed her gratitude for those who “support my art,” and assured North American fans that “when these unforeseen circumstances are resolved, we’ll be back in full force.” Read her full statement below.

“The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill 25th Anniversary Tour” was scheduled to begin its US leg this Friday, August 9th, with support from Hill’s son YG Marley. Originally, Fugees were to tour in 2021, following their first reunion in 15 years.

For now, the European leg of the tour is set to kick off in October, stopping in Dublin, London, Paris, Berlin, and other cities. Grab tickets here.
