SDCC 2024 gives us Silo’s season 2 silos, a release date, Steve Zahn

Solo (Steve Zahn) staring through a slot in Silo season 2

When we last left Juliette Nichols (Rebecca Ferguson) in Silo season 1, she was uncovering a truth she had fought long and hard for — though it was not the truth she expected. And now, based on the glimpse of season 2 we got at San Diego Comic-Con, it seems the whole world is wider than she ever knew. And thank god we don’t have to wait too much longer to see it.

[Ed. note: The rest of this post contains spoilers so we can talk about what season 2 will bring without having to be vague the way the intro is.]

As you may recall (or just are ready to have spoiled), Juliette spent a lot of season 1 trying to figure out why the powers that be in the silo were so shady. She found the truth — they were hiding that the outside camera showing the state of the world was a lie, and she called an audible and opted to leave the silo to find proof. Once she was up there, she found out she was right that the external camera was a fake, only it turns out the outside world was actually much worse than the camera showed, and the silo’s senior leadership was trying to keep the people of the silo hopeful.

On the plus side, she finds something incredible: there are more silos, beyond just her own. It’s a helluva dangling promise, and per the panel at SDCC, the first episode will pick up with Ferguson’s Juliette alone in the wasteland. But the second episode will return us to Juliette’s home silo, making way for the bifurcated storylines we’ll get throughout the new season.

The crowd at SDCC also got treated to a clip from the first episode of season 2, with Juliette landing at a dead silo before having to build a ladder in order to cross a rickety bridge. Once she crosses, Juliette finds a locked door… with a man behind it, threatening to kill her if she opens it.

Which brings us to the most important news from Comic-Con: Steve Zahn is joining the cast of season 2! As pivotal book character Solo. He described the character as “a middle-aged 10-year-old” (which is an apt description for the Zahn type, really).

If you’ve read the Hugh Howey novels Silo is based on, you know that there’s still a lot to dig into. But with this first glimpse into season 2, Silo seems to just be getting started.

Silo returns to Apple TV Plus on Nov. 15.
