Brendan Fraser to Play Dwight D. Eisenhower in D-Day Movie

Brendan Fraser has officially joined the cast of Pressure, an upcoming film that chronicles the days immediately preceding D-Day. As reported by Deadline, Fraser will play Supreme Allied Commander Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Pressure is set to star Andrew Scott as Britain’s Chief Meteorological Officer James Stagg, who worked with Eisenhower to chart out the weather conditions for the storming of Normandy. Anthony Mars will direct the historical drama, and shooting is scheduled to begin in September.

The film is based on David Haig’s play of the same name. Haig and Maras penned the screenplay, which reportedly aims to capture the intense drama of the theatrical production while expanding the scope to portray the actual landings of the invasion.

“In the 72 hours leading up to D-Day, all the pieces are in place except for one key element — the British weather,” the official synopsis reads. “Britain’s Chief Meteorological Officer James Stagg is called upon to deliver the most consequential forecast in history, locking him into a tense standoff with the entire Allied leadership. The wrong conditions could devastate the largest-ever seaborne invasion, while any delay risks German intelligence catching on. With only his trusted aide Captain Kay Summersby to confide in, and haunted by a catastrophic D-Day rehearsal, the final decision rests with Supreme Allied Commander Dwight D. Eisenhower. With only hours to go, the fate of the war and the lives of millions hang in the balance.”

Fraser recently appeared in Killers of the Flower Moon and starred in The Whale. Scott, for his part, starred in All of Us Strangers and Ripley. The Fleabag actor has also been tapped for the upcoming third installment of the Knives Out series.
