This is SOUND ADVICE, a weekly destination for playlists curated by Interview’s friends, enemies, and lovers. Over the past few weeks, we’ve gathered playlists from Holly Humberstone, DJ Bloodcore, and Jeremy Pope. This week’s edition is brought to you by Tucker Pillsbury aka Role Model, the bedroom pop artist who can confidently say he’s written more songs about Emma Chamberlain than anyone else. In 2017, he caught the attention of Mac Miller, who helped secure Role Model’s first record deal. But his highly-anticipated sophomore album Kansas Anymore, which dropped last Friday, grapples with the other side of fame– missing home. For this week’s Sound Advice, the Maine-native made us an Americana heartbreak playlist and took the time to answer our accompanying questionnaire, in which he revealed his “weird obsession/crush” with Elvis and why Sofia Coppola is the queen of movie soundtracks.

———

What are your favorite breakup songs? Aside from Kansas Anymore coming out July 19th? Probably anything by Pinegrove, even if it’s not about heartbreak it feels like it is.

Three words to describe your new album: Grammy-nominated, maybe.

What song do you have on repeat? “Sweet Thing” by Twin Peaks.

What’s a music taste red flag? I personally can’t stand when people grab the aux and play mid 2000’s hits as a joke. Like, Pitbull and Flo Rida. I’ll rip my ears off I’m sorry.

What’s your earliest musical memory? Elvis. I had a weird obsession/crush on him and his music for some reason. Cardboard cutouts, lunchbox, whole nine yards.

Bluetooth or wired headphones? Bluetooth. I can’t with the Lower East Side wired airpod trend. I’m in the future, babe.

Sunglasses inside: yes or no? No I can’t stand it, specifically at night though. I know ya’ll can’t see shit.

What was your first concert? Jonas Brothers in Portland, Maine with my mom.

Best movie-needle drop: Well, Marie Antoinette has the coolest soundtrack across the board.

What artist, dead or alive, would you love to collaborate with? Still Kacey Musgraves, always has been.

What does your notes app look like? Out of context, probably very concerning.

Who’s in your musical coven? Unfortunately nobody, but I would love Chappell Roan to join.

The world is ending. What are you wearing? Gracie Abrams merch.
