GWAR Covered “I’m Just Ken,” And It’s Absolutely Perfect

GWAR Covered "I'm Just Ken," And It's Absolutely Perfect

After a seven-year hiatus, The A.V. Club has revived its kick-ass covers song series A.V. Undercover. If you’re unfamiliar, the concept is pretty simple: each season begins with a list of 25 songs. Bands are invited to chose a song to cover. Once a song gets played, it’s crossed off the list. The later a band appears on the series, the fewer songs they have to choose from.

And who better to kick off Season 9 of A.V. Undercover than with GWAR, who previously made their mark on the series with covers of Kansas’ “Carry On Wayward Son,” Billy Ocean’s “Get Outta My Dreams, Get into My Car,” Pet Shop Boys’ “West End Girls,” and Cyndi Laupers’ “She-Bop.”

This go-around, the intergalactic heavy metal band had all 25 songs at their choosing, but thankfully they opted for the only obvious choice: “I’m Just Ken,” Ryan Gosling’s epic ’80s power ballad from the Barbie soundtrack. (We’ll take some credit for helping will this into the universe.)

Elsewhere in the world of GWAR, Consequence Shop is offering a BOGO 50% off sale on Bud of Gods and New Dank Ages productions as part of its big summer sale. I can only imagine how much better their performance of “I’m Just Ken” will be one you pop in a few gummies.
