The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) is destined for heartbreak thanks to Adam Newman’s (Mark Grossman) disloyalty. It’s just a matter of time until Sally finds out about Adam and Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) cheating, so the fallout’s going to be rough!
Chelsea was unfaithful to Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) as well, but let’s focus on Adam’s end of all this for a moment.
It was a big deal for Adam to cross that line with Chelsea, so how did Mark Grossman feel about the twist?
In a new interview with SOD, Grossman came clean about how he really felt when he first learned Adam would hit the sheets with Chelsea. It turns out Grossman’s initial reaction was one of disappointment.
“Honestly, my first reaction … I wasn’t thrilled that they were going to cheat,” Grossman admitted.
Grossman talked about reading up on Adam’s past before he stepped into the role. Since Adam “historically wasn’t a cheater,” Grossman was saddened to see his character go down this road with Chelsea now.
That said, Grossman confessed to thinking the idea seemed logical after he got more story updates and found out about the situation that pulled Adam closer to Chelsea.
Since Chelsea and Adam have been going through something uniquely difficult as Connor Newman’s (Judah Mackey) parents, Grossman could see why it led to this betrayal.
The parental link between Adam and Chelsea is always going to be there, but it’s become even more powerful lately due to Connor’s ordeal.
Of course, that doesn’t mean Mark Grossman is excusing Adam’s behavior. The fact that Adam still loves Sally is adding to his guilt, so Grossman acknowledged that and suggested Sally would likely dump Adam if she knew.
Adam and Sally have already faced plenty of trust issues, so this betrayal may shatter them to the point that they can’t come back from it.
Despite Grossman’s initial resistance to playing Adam’s cheating shocker, he quickly got on board with how soapy it was.
Once Grossman and Egan dove into the drama, he said they both got excited about the juiciness of it all.
Grossman also praised Egan, Hope and Thompson for being talented costars, so he’s loving this chance to work with them all on a storyline together.
As for where this Y&R story is ultimately headed, Grossman couldn’t make a firm prediction on that. Although Grossman hinted that a potential new chapter for Chelsea and Adam, he couldn’t say anything for sure.
“I just don’t know, so I’m really curious to see what will happen next,” Grossman said.
