julie Set Debut Album my anti-aircraft friend, Share Single

Rising indie rock band julie have announced their debut album, my anti-aircraft friend, out September 13th via Atlantic Records. The trio has also shared the new single, “clairbourne practice.” Watch the accompanying music video below.

julie have been garnering more and more buzz since they made a name for themselves with their 2020 cut “flutter.” After a string of excellent single releases and the pushing daisies EP, they landed on our list of the 15 Rising Artists to Watch in 2024 and will soon tour with the likes of Alex G and Faye Webster (get tickets here). Now, they’re finally set to make their first full-length statement.

“clairbourne practice” follows lead single “catalogue” and comes out of the gate swinging with a riff that nods toward heavy ’90s shoegaze acts (think Hum or “Be Quite and Drive (Far Away)”-esque Deftones). It’s shadowy, dynamic, and packs a hell of a punch.

“It’s two voices conflicting and crashing with each other, unable to understand each other. The way the vocals are layered on top of each other in this song is maybe the most androgynous on the album,” the band said in a statement. “But it’s two people saying the same thing and still not hearing each other. We definitely wanted the loud and quiet parts to be polar opposites. Sweet, then destructive, and coming back and repeating the cycle.”
