Lzzy Hale on Fronting Skid Row and Jon Bon Jovi's Praise

Lzzy Hale had the recent pleasure of fronting Skid Row for a series of shows. Moreover, she earned high praise for her performances from none other than Jon Bon Jovi.

Skid Row were in need of a singer after the departure of Erik Grönwall due to health issues earlier this year. Lzzy stepped up to the plate and fronted the veteran rockers for four shows in late May and early June.

During her recent conversation with I Prevail’s Eric Vanlerberghe as part of Consequence‘s Two for the Road series, Lzzy also spoke about her experience singing for Skid Row (a bonus segment that can be seen above). While Lzzy has established herself as a bona fide rock star fronting her longtime band Halestorm, getting the chance to front Skid Row was a childhood fantasy come true.

“I was bringing Cinderella CDs, and Skid Row, and Dio, and Alice Cooper CDs to slumber parties where [the other kids] would be listening to Backstreet Boys or Boys II Men,” recalled Lzzy. “So, Skid Row, these are the men that raised me. … My inner child was screaming [upon getting the call from Skid Row].”

As previously reported, Jon Bon Jovi, who played a big role in helping to break Skid Row in the ’80s, gave Lzzy a ringing endorsement after those four shows. “Please, Lzzy Hale, join Skid Row. Put the two bands together, if you need to. But this is the best thing that happened to [Skid Row guitarist] Snake [Sabo] since he met me.”

As for her reaction to Bon Jovi’s praise, Lzzy remarked, “First, my internal teenager is like, ‘Jon Bon Jovi knows who I am!’ And then I’m like, ‘Oh my God, how sweet of him to say all these things.’”
