MARGOT Robbie has been linked to various names throughout her career, but the only one she’s been known to have a serious relationship with is her husband Tom Ackerley.
Here’s the lowdown on the British film producer and his relationship with the Barbie star.
Who is Margot Robbie’s husband, Tom Ackerley?
Tom Ackerley is a film producer, occasional actor, and former assistant director.
He was born on January 1, 1990, in Surrey, England.
He went to school at St George’s College, Weybridge, and then moved to Godalming College, near Guildford.
While he’s primarily a filmmaker, he has also dabbled in acting work just like his wife Margot Robbie.
Ackerley was an extra in the first three installments of the iconic Harry Potter film series.
“My husband is in the Harry Potter movies. I know, I was like, ‘Had you told me sooner we would’ve been married very quickly,'” Robbie joked in an appearance on The Graham Norton Show.
“But he was an extra when he was a little kid — he was one of the Slytherin extras when Draco pushes some kids out of the way to see Buckbeak in the third book.
“He pushes my husband out of the way.”
He then went on to work behind the scenes, working as a floor runner, set production assistant, and assistant director for movies like Gambit, Macbeth, and Da Vinci’s Demons.
Some of his first projects as a producer starred Robbie, particularly I, Tonya and Terminal.
Over the years, he got to produce more big-ticket projects, including Barbie and Saltburn.
Tom accompanied Margot on the Barbie press tour in Korea, Australia and Los Angeles.
He even walked on the red carpet with her at the Los Angeles premiere of the movie.
How did Tom and Margot meet?
The couple met in 2013 when they were both working on the World War 2 film Suite Francaise, filming scenes across Belgium and France.
Tom was working as a third assistant director on the movie and Margot played the role of Celine.
At the time, the Suicide Squad actress admitted that she was not looking for anything serious, but she happened to cross paths with Ackerley, who she describes as “the best-looking guy in London.”
And while they eventually struck up a romance, they first developed a solid friendship.
“I was the ultimate single gal.
“The idea of relationships made me want to vomit.
“And then this crept up on me,” Robbie shared with Vogue.
“We were friends for so long.
“I was always in love with him, but I thought, Oh, he would never love me back.
“Don’t make it weird, Margot. Don’t be stupid and tell him that you like him.
“And then it happened, and I was like, Of course we’re together.
“This makes so much sense, the way nothing has ever made sense before.”
They started dating a year later, and their relationship was cemented in the summer of 2016 when they got engaged.
Margot’s mum Sarie Kessler, has previously gushed about her son-in-law.
The physiotherapist said, “She loves Tom, he’s the one, he’s the man in her life, he’s a gorgeous and delightful person.”
Robbie also calls him a “normie,” and she wouldn’t have it any other way.
“I am so lucky. He likes being behind the camera. He’s not fazed by any of this stuff,” the star told E! News.
“He’s just the best, it’s so fun. I love the word ‘normie,’ yes, like all my friends, everyone’s like, ‘That’s cool what you do but it’s more fun just to hang out and talk about other stuff.’ And you’re like, ‘I know.'”
When did Tom and Margot get married?
In December 2016, the Aussie actress tied the knot with Tom.
They wed in a secret location on the Gold Coast in Australia, near the town of Dalby, where she grew up.
Margot wore a boho-inspired gown which was believed to have been Oscar De La Renta.
Instead of going on a honeymoon the newly weds went straight back to work.
Margot said about working on their movie I,Tonya to Extra in 2017: “We did this film instead of our honeymoon.
“There were times we were sitting in a car parked in Atlanta freezing cold being like, ‘We should be on a beach right now.
“We should be on a honeymoon. What are we doing?!’ Following our dream.”
After they finished shooting the movie, they went on their honeymoon.
Aside from being husband and wife, Tom and Margot are also business partners.
Along with their friends, Sophia Kerr and Joseph McNamara, they opened a production outfit called LuckyChap Entertainment in 2014 with the goal of creating more movies with women at the forefront.
“If we can be a company that curates new and emerging talent, and can bring them through and provide that platform to do bigger movies and studio movies, that’s ideally what we want to do,” Tom told MovieMaker Magazine.
Margot chimed in, “It’s nice to be in business with people where I already know we’re going to do life together anyway.”
