Jeopardy! fans call out ‘inaccurate’ clue about a common BBQ item leaving them ‘yelling at the TV’

The Jeopardy! clue was looking for the response 'Chili dog'

JEOPARDY! fans have beef with a clue about a beloved type of hot dog and whether it technically held water.

Internet users were divided over how the iconic game show described Detroit’s Coney-style dog on Wednesday night.

Adriana Harmeyer, who won her fifth of seven wins and now boasts a towering total of $155,700, faced Christina Paul and Travis Kissire.

The $1200 “City Slang” clue read, “Order a Coney Island at Detroit’s finer eateries & you’ll get this.”

Adriana responded, “What is a hot dog?”

Ken asked, “Can you be more specific?” to which she replied, “A chili dog,” which he ruled correct.

Detroiters took to Reddit, some saying a “Detroit Coney” doesn’t have chili but a specific meat sauce and they weren’t happy.

‘VASTLY DIFFERENT’

“A Detroit coney does not have chili on it! It is a specific meat sauce that is not chili. I used to make it at a Michigan restaurant, I also made chili and they are vastly different,” one user wrote.

“That’s semantics. It’s beanless chili. You can call it sauce, but it’s a variation on chili,” another defended – fair point.

“I’d definitely call it a chili sauce. Maybe I got non-standard ones, though – I’m no expert,” wrote a third.

“As a native metro Detroiter- agree as well,” a fourth wrote siding with the original poster.

“You can buy it at Meijer and Walmart and it is NOT chili. It’s beef heart sauce with ground meat,” wrote one more.

“As someone who comes from Fort Wayne IN, with our historic Coney Island, I agree. A Coney dog is different than a chili dog for sure,” agreed a sixth.

“We were yelling at the TV last night. These monsters probably think Chili and Sloppy Joes are the same thing!” joked a seventh, but not about the chili part.

Regardless with 22 correct responses and just 2 incorrect, Adriana maintained a runaway which she’s now done five of seven times.

OTHER QUESTIONABLE CLUES

Two games earlier, fans lost sleep over a clue about the city that never sleeps and a very dubious comparison.

The clue under “Around New York” for $800 came with a video of the Bronx borough of New York City.

Alongside the clip, Ken read the clue, “The Grand Concourse, a wide thoroughfare with tree-lined medians, is known as this Parisian street of the Bronx.”

Adriana correctly responded, “The Champs-Élysées,” referring to the postcard-worthy avenue in Paris, France.

Fans flooded social media, agreeing that no one calls the slightly less picturesque Grand Concourse the Champs-Élysées of the Bronx.

“Lifelong NYer here and I have to ask….has anyone ever heard the Grand Concourse referred to as the “Champs-Élysées” of the Bronx?” one Redditor wrote.

“Nobody from the Bronx, or NYC, calls it that – ever,” replied another.

During Adriana’s second victory last Friday, fans called out the show for incorrectly crediting a song to a band that didn’t write it.

SLAY-DRIANA HARMEYER

Meanwhile, Adriana, an art archivist from West Lafayette, Indiana, has been going strong since arriving last week.

She now boasts the longest streak and earnings all season and shows no signs of slowing down.

Fans took to social media to buzz about Adriana, the fourth qualifier for the next (currently all-female) ToC.

“Way to go, Adriana, you are a great contestant!!” one Redditor wrote.

“Adriana is impressive, likable, and fun to watch. I’m going to predict a 20-game run. Hoping for even more. Go, Adriana!” wrote another.

“Adriana is killing it and I love her retro vibe, like she stepped off the set of the Mary Tyler Moore show,” wrote a third.

“Adriana is so cool I bet she doesn’t even sweat,” wrote a fourth.

So far, the other qualifiers for the next ToC (all female) are five-day winners Alison Betts and Dr. Amy Hummel and Celebrity Jeopardy!’s Lisa Ann Walter.

That said, with four wins, Grant DeYoung and Amar Kakirde will likely join the fray as well.

Jeopardy! airs at 7 pm ET on ABC – check your local listings.
