Dramatic footage showed the 30-year-old pause mid-set to ask her Seville audience what they were staring at on Wednesday.

After spotting the nocturnal creature clutching onto her left thigh, the star exclaimed: “There’s a f*****g flying bat on my leg right now, can someone help me please?”

Staff soon swarmed the stage to rescue her and the singer gave an eerie bat-like squeal into her microphone before laughing off the bite.

Countless fans later commended the singer for remaining unflappable in the surreal situation.

Momsen, best known for her role as Jenny Humphrey on Gossip Girl – shared her stage for several minutes with the creature – reminding some of the last rock artist to do so.

Ozzy Osbourne, rock legend, took it one step further and bit into a living bat at a concert after an audience member threw it on stage.

Someone on Twitter said the bat bite had earnt her a new title, writing: “That was just Ozzy’s way of passing the buck. You have been chosen as the princess of darkness.”

Another fan joked: “Where’s Ozzy Osbourne when you need him?”

And a third simply said: “Ozzy is proud.”

Momsen was later filmed in hospital with four red fang marks in her left thigh.

The singer-turned actress, who played Cindy Lou in The Grinch, is now undergoing a two-week course of rabies shots.

On social media she told fans: “So…ROCK AND ROLL MOMENT…in Seville Wednesday during “Witches Burn” of all songs a BAT flew onto me and clung to my leg.

“In the moment I was performing and had no idea until the incredible crowd kept screaming and pointing…he was cute, but yes he bit me.

“So rabies shots for the next two weeks.

“Thanks to all the staff at the hospital who dubbed me #batgirl after seeing it on the local news that morning.”

Momsen did tell fans that the bat was “fine” after staff removed him from her thigh, and joked “He’s going to be my new friend.”

Singer Natasha Bedingfield commented under Momsen’s Instagram post of the incident asking her: “Did it hurt?”

Momsen replied: “the bite? No. The shots? YES.”

A couple of days after the bite the singer posted a pic of her standing next to a no-bat sign backstage on the AC/DC tour.

Her band The Pretty Reckless will support them on the UK leg of their tour this summer as they perform in Britain for the first time in eight years.
