On Saturday, May 25, DelFest soared to new heights with the third day of its 2024 iteration. For the penultimate program at Cumberland, Md.’s Allegany County Fairgrounds, the premiere bluegrass festival welcomed some of the genre’s foremost figureheads, fostering a spirit of eclectic creativity on and off stage as fans got in on the quick pickin’ fun.
Saturday’s festivities were led by the great Del McCoury, who presented two sets from his Grammy-winning greener group The Travelin’ McCourys. The second of these sets saw accompaniment from country up-and-comer and son-of-Shotgun Lukas Nelson. Sierra Ferrell also stopped in, delivering key selections like Adele’s “Someone Like You” and Lukas’ “Find Yourself.” Day three’s bill also boasted returns from Leftover Salmon and Sam Grisman Project, plus first-time performances from a range of newcomers to the bluegrass circuit.
