Today, May 21, Sugaray Rayford has unveiled his new collaborative track with Sam Morrow. Dubbed “Stuck Between,” the single serves as a preview of Rayford’s forthcoming Eric Corne-produced album, Human Decency from Forty Below Records, due on June 14. The new song delves into discord between man and machine to draw a distinction between the world’s progressive approach to technology and the need to find individual place and purpose.
“Stuck Between” is a funk-infused journey that expands on Rayford’s soul blues heritage. The track features the distinctive sounds of wah-wah clavinet and soaring horns, elevating the instrumental presentation beyond expectations. Presented as a duet, the single showcases the vocal prowess of country-blues rising star Morrow, adding a new layer of musical excellence.
“In today’s world we’re often running in 10 different directions and can lose sight of who we are and where we’re going. We know we need to make progress with technology, but we also need to figure out what life is all about,” the official press release references as meaning behind “Stuck Between.”
Rayford was nominated for a 2020 Grammy, and he was the winner of the B.B. King Entertainer of the Year in 2021 and Best Soul Blues Album 2023 at the Blues Music Awards. His latest release, which doubles as today’s Relix exclusive, “Stuck Between,” arrives after already dropped songs off the forthcoming Human Decency set, including “Run For Cover” and “Ain’t That A Man.”
