Following the success of Anyone But You and their exploding individual careers, Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell fancy themselves as Hollywood’s next platonic (allegedly) power couple.
After Anyone But You racked up over $200 million at the box office, both Powell and Sweeney obtained what both of their burgeoning careers so desperately needed, and that was being able to sell a movie with their names at the top.
Now that they’ve proved they’ve got bankability to go alongside their talent and looks, the pair aren’t being shy about wanting to work together again, with Powell recently comparing them to Hollywood icons George Clooney and Julia Roberts.
“Sydney and I want to get back in the trenches together,” Powell recently said in an interview on Sunday Today with Willie Geist.
“It’s like Julia [Roberts] and George [Clooney]. You know, Matthew [McConaughey] and Kate [Hudson]. You know these people that work together over and over and over again.”
Cloney and Roberts have worked together on numerous films, such as the Ocean’s trilogy, Money Monster, Ticket to Paradise, and Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (Clooney’s directorial debut).
McConaughey and Hudson starred in two mid-2000s romantic comedies together, 2003’s How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and 2008’s Fool’s Gold.
Powell’s recent comments are certainly backed up by what Sweeney said earlier this year when she revealed the pair are looking for another project to do together (in addition to the likely Anyone But You sequel).
“I love working with Glen,” Sweeney told Business Insider. “I know that we’re actively fielding different projects and seeing what’s out there for us.”
The duo have certainly already figured out how to manipulate the media like movie stars as they recently admitted to playing into rumors of an affair between the two in order to market the movie.
The pair are certainly both on track to become movie stars as far as their individual careers are concerned, as they’ve both recently signed on to several high-profile projects.
This summer, for example, Powell is starring in both Richard Linklater’s Hit Man and Twisters, the sequel to Twister, while Sweeney recently landed Edgar Wright to direct her upcoming remake of the Jane Fonda-starring cult classic sci-fi Barbarella.
