Seattle’s Bumbershoot Arts & Music Festival has announced the list of artists to perform at the 51st annual event. Scheduled for Labor Day Weekend, Aug. 31-Sept.1, at the 74-acre Seattle Center, this year’s star-studded event will span genres and eras, with notable headlining performances from indie-rock ensemble Pavement, Australian rocker Courtney Barnett, multi-instrumentalist Kurt Vile and legendary singer-songwriter Kim Gordon.
On the bill, Madison Cunningham and Andrew Bird will team up as Cunningham/Bird following an initial duo performance at Newport, R.I.’s Newport Folk Festival in July. Illustrious soul outfits Thee Sacred Souls and St. Paul and the Broken Bones will also headline, as well as Grammy Award-winning musician and producer James Blake. The artist lineup also features genre-bending Canadian band BADBADNOTGOOD, rapper Freddie Gibbs, pop-rock duo Aly & AJ, hip-hop group Cypress Hill, electronic performer Marc Rebillet and DJ Carl Cox. The weekend also featured performances from Mercury Rev, The Polyphonic Spree, Lee Fields, and many more talented artists, both established and emerging.
In accordance with their commitment to the cultivation of arts of all kinds, the event boasts an impressive lineup of Visual Arts and Culinary Arts alongside this incredible list of musical acts. This year, Bumbershoot will highlight a brand new Animation District at the heart of the event’s Visual Arts program and offerings from over 50 culinary establishments across the Pacific Northwest. As a multifaceted arts and music experience and one of the longest-running independent festivals, the event is a testament to and celebration of the Pacific Northwest’s culture, history and landscape.
