The average person can be forgiven for having trouble keeping up with the beef between Kendrick Lamar and Drake after it took the hip-hop world by storm, and it’s easy to understand why Tom Hanks wasn’t constantly monitoring every development.

Thankfully, the actor had another rapper in his corner who was able to bring him up to speed: his son Chet.

It’s hard to believe it’s been close to 15 years since the world was introduced to “Chet Haze,” the moniker Chet Hanks (the oldest of the two sons Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have together) adopted when he decided to give rapping a try while attending Northwestern University.

In the decade or so that followed, Chet cemented himself as the black sheep of the Hanks clan as he continued to pursue a career as a rapper while doing things like adopting a Jamaican patois to shoot his shot at Adele, serving as the poster boy for the “White Boy Summer” of 2021, and getting called out by Eric Andre for taking things too far during an appearance on his Adult Swim show (which is certainly no small feat).

Chet has been a bit more open about his relationship with his dad than Tom has when it comes to discussing the trials and tribulations that come with being the father of one of the entertainment industry’s most polarizing nepo babies. However, we got a peek behind the curtain after the actor turned to his son to get the lowdown on the feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar.

On Monday, Chet hopped on Instagram to share the lengthy text message he sent to his father after the 67-year-old asked him to explain what transpired between the rappers who recently traded some very heated shots (while also revealing the actor refers to him as “Big Main”).

Tom Hanks has always seemed like the kind of guy who would earnestly use the phrase “Holy cow!” while texting, so I’m glad we can also confirm that is indeed the case.
