Universal Pictures has released a brand new trailer for Wicked, the film adaptation of the celebrated Broadway musical starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo. Watch it in full below.
The new Wicked trailer follows the “First Look” teaser that arrived in February. Boasting a longer runtime, the preview offers a more in-depth look into the film’s version of Oz. The adaptation splits the original story into two parts, with the first installment premiering in theaters on November 27th.
Directed by Jon M. Chu, Wicked follows Grande’s Glinda and Erivo’s Elphaba as their friendship reaches a crossroads. “Glinda’s unflinching desire for popularity sees her seduced by power, while Elphaba’s determination to remain true to herself, and to those around her, will have unexpected and shocking consequences on her future,” the official longline reads. “Their extraordinary adventures in Oz will ultimately see them fulfill their destinies as Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.”
In addition to the film’s two leads, Wicked will feature Jeff Goldblum, Michelle Yeoh, Bowen Yang, Ethan Slater (Grande’s SpongeBoo), and more. Winnie Holzman and Stephen Schwartz, who both worked on the original theatrical production, penned the screenplay, while Marc Platt and David Stone served as producers.
Tapping into her inner Good Witch isn’t the only thing Grande’s been up to. She recently released a jabillion versions of her single “yes, and?” (an unfortunate industry trend), stopped by SNL, and dropped a new album, eternal sunshine.
