The official synopsis for the upcoming reboot of the beloved sitcom The Office has been revealed by NBC.
Production on the series, which is set to star Domhnall Gleeson (Ex Machina, The Patient)and Sabrina Impacciatore (season two of HBO’s The White Lotus), is set to begin in July. While Gleeson and Impacciatore have been confirmed to star in the series, the rest of the ensemble cast has yet to be filled out.
According to the network, the series will be set in the same universe as the original American version of The Office but will feature new characters at a new location.
That location has now been confirmed to be a dying local newspaper in the Midwest.
“The documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch is in search of a new subject when they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters,” says NBCUniversal.
“It’s been more than ten years since the final episode of ‘The Office’ aired on NBC, and the acclaimed comedy series continues to gain popularity and build new generations of fans on Peacock,” Lisa Katz, the president of NBCUniversal Entertainment, said in a statement.
The original English version of The Office was created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant and aired on BBC Two from 2001 to 2003. The American version starring Steve Carrell, John Krasinski, Rainn Wilson, and more aired on NBC from 2005 to 2013, winning the Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series in 2006.
