In case anyone needed a reminder that dudes rock, David Rush has just set a new flaming sword Guinness World Record that serves as a reminder that dudes do, in fact, rock.
When David Rush first attempted to break the world record for ‘the most throws and catches of a flaming sword in 30 seconds’ the record only stood at 28 and was held by Ashrita Furman who has set over 600 Guinness World Records and currently holds over 200. In Rush’s first attempt, he was able to get 29 throws and catches in 30 seconds even despite dropping the sword *and* setting the deck on fire.
However, it wasn’t meant to be that day. That attempt was disqualified by Guinness because he was during a 1-minute attempt at the 30-second record. The two attempts has to be done separately.
Then in 2020, he got 57 flaming sword spins in 30 seconds for a new world record but that was broken in due time so now he’s back with another attempt and this time around it seems virtually unbeatable: 73 flaming sword spins and catches in 30 seconds.
David Rush is on a quest to beat Ashrita Furman‘s title of holding the most Guinness World Records concurrently. Brooklyn-born Ashrita Furman currently holds over 200 but this new flaming sword world record brings David Rush one step closer as he now holds 166 records simultaneously.
This is definitely an instance of ‘two steps forward, one step back’ because holding that many records concurrently puts a massive bullseye on your back. There are a LOT of Guinness World Records out there that are ripe for the taking. Think you can eat 20 chicken nuggets in 60 seconds? You could have yourself a record. Can you balance 51 CDs on a single finger? Go get that world record!
