Chance the Rapper reunites with fellow Chicago native Vic Mensa for “Wraith (Writing Exercise #3).” The two previously worked together on “Cocoa Butter Kisses” off Chance’s mixtape Acid Rap and “Tweakin’” on Mensa’s mixtape Innanetape.
Vic hinted that “Wraith” is just a sampler of what we could expect from the two of them. “Me and Chano have been working on a lot of music for a while now, there’s much more to come,” he told Complex. “This was produced by the homie Smoko Ono and Beat Butcha.”
Mensa is coming off the release of his four-track EP Vino Valentino, which was fittingly released on Valentine’s Day. Meanwhile, in March, Chance dropped “Child of God,” his first solo song since “The Heart & The Tongue” just over a year ago.
The video for “Child of God” finds Chance back behind the camera as a cinematographer for the first time. In an interview with Complex, The Big Day rapper said he spent the last few years getting back into filmmaking, but decided to hand the directorial reins over to Troy Gueno, who worked with him on “The Heart & The Tongue.”
“I’m trying to develop this new visual language where I’m focusing these new videos on the words, so the subject of all my videos are the words that I’m saying,” Chance explained. After giving everyone Chance for so long, he wanted to “give a little more of ‘The Rapper’ and let people get what they’re coming for, which is my words.”
Chance and Vic are doing just that on “Wraith.” Check it out up top via YouTube.
In other news, Mensa was featured on Big Gigantic’s new track “Just The Same” with Mick Jenkins. You can head here to hear that song.
