The news broke after Mad Men actor Joel Murray tweeted: “We’ve lost another of my idols. RIP Joe Flaherty 1941-2024.”
His death comes a month after Second City, an improv comedy group that Joe was a part of, shared he was ill launching a fundraiser to help the actor.
Only Murders in the Building actor Martin Short, who was the head of the fundraiser, wrote: “Our beloved SCTV cast member, Joe Flaherty, is very ill.
“Joe is aware of the gravity of his failing health and would like to spend whatever time he has left at home rather than in a facility.”
According to Martin, the fundraiser was to help Gudrun as she supported her father through his illness.
Before his death, Joe was famously recognized for his roles in Freaks and Geeks, Happy Gilmore, and Detroit Rock City.
His successful career landed the actor multiple accolades, including two Emmy Awards.
