While nothing has been confirmed, Bullet Train and Kraven the Hunter star Aaron Taylor-Johnson, long the betting favorite to be the next James Bond, was rumored to have been offered the part earlier this month.
Because of the increasingly strong rumors, the conversation had made its way all the way up to former James Bond actors, as Pierce Brosnan — who portrayed 007 in four films in the late 90s and early 2000s — was recently asked what he thinks about ATJ.
Brosnan and Taylor-Johnson have actually worked together before, as the pair co-starred in the 2009 film The Greatest — an experience that provides the basis of Brosnan’s praise.
“He was the greatest in [The Greatest],” Brosnan said, according to The Guardian. “So, yes, I read the news about his possibilities of being a Bond, so I would definitely tip my hat to the fellow. I think the man has the chops and the talent and the charisma to play Bond, very much so.”
Should the next Bond movie land its star and director in the next six months, it’ll likely be able to begin production before the end of 2024, which would likely put it on track for a Fall 2025 or Summer 2026 release.
This is actually the second time we’ve written about the 70-year-old Brosnan, as earlier this month he was fined $1,500 by the United States government for going off the trail at Yellowstone National Park. Brosnan got caught because he posted photos of his wayward adventure online.
Taylor-Johnson, 33 years old, is known for his roles in films such as Kick-Ass, Godzilla, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Savages Nocturnal Animals, Tenet, The King’s Man, Bullet Train, and more.
