Dua Lipa isn’t just an English-speaking Albanian-British pop star but she’s also on her way to being bi-lingual (or maybe even tri-lingual), as well.
In a recent post to her Instagram stories that she shared from Mexico City, Lipa can be seen sitting in the back of a car asking the driver, in Spanish, to turn on the radio.
“Podemos escuchar la radio por favor?” Lipa asks. “Gracias.”
Given that Lipa has become arguably the internet’s biggest crush in recent years, the reaction to her unveiling that she not only speaks Spanish but also does a bit of an accent left the internet basically foaming at the mouth.
“Dua Lipa speaking Spanish changed me. I’m not the same man anymore,” said one viral tweet with over 4.5 million views. “I’m h——.”
Lipa has actually spoken about her desire to speak multiple languages before, as she once said in an interview with Rolling Stone earlier this year that she wants to be fluent in Italian, French, and Spanish by the time she’s 35 years old (she’s currently 28).
“I want to know all of them. I get so jealous when people are speaking in French, or Spanish, or Italian, and I’m like, ‘F—.’ I just want to respond,” Lipa said. “I think I can pick them up fairly easily because of Albanian, although it’s quite different.”
Lipa is currently gearing up for the release of her third studio album Radical Optimism, which will be released on Friday, May 3. So far, the songs “Houdini” and “Training Season” have been released as singles to promote the album. Lipa previously released her self-titled debut album Dua Lipa in 2017 and the Grammy-winning Future Nostalgia in 2020.
She’s also got a growing acting career, having recently appeared in both Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and Matthew Vaughn Argylle.
