Sum 41’s Deryck Whibley will be releasing his memoirs later this year, ‘Walking Disaster: My Life Through Heaven And Hell’.
The pop-punk icon’s book is set for release October 08 via Gallery Books and is said to tell “the untold story of Sum 41.”
It’s of course an emotional time for Sum 41 fans, after the Ontario outfit announced last year that they’re calling it a day after 27 years – after the release of their final album, ‘Heaven :x: Hell’, and the small matter of a worldwide tour that is.
Deryck’s memoirs will no doubt add to the bittersweet occasion, as fans celebrate the band’s journey and the legacy they leave behind.
On publisher Simon & Schuster’s site (of which Gallery Books is an imprint), the “candid memoir of punk rock, fame, and endurance” has been been described as:
“Deryck takes you backstage, into the recording booth, and through the highest highs and lowest lows of the band whose story is inextricably woven with his own.
“With his insightful, earnest, and genuine voice, Deryck gets real about fame, fortune, and the music industry.”

Discussing the band’s breakout hit ‘Fat Lip’, Deryck told Rock Sound:
“‘Fat Lip’ was the last song written for the record. We were almost 70% done with the record and all the songs were technically written for the most part.
“The label had thought it was going to be ‘In Too Deep’ as the first single, ‘Motivation’ was going to be the second single and ‘Handle This’ was going to be the third single, so we’re gonna go with the slow one as the last one.
“And at the very last second… I mean, I’d been working on ‘Fat Lip’ for a while so it wasn’t that it just came out of nowhere. But at the last second, I had this idea of trying to bring old school rap that I grew up loving, this late ‘80s, Run DMC, Beastie Boys kind of thing, and try to marry it with punk-rock into one song.”
