Lil Nas X was one of about 25,000 runners to hit the pavement for the New York City Half Marathon on Sunday. He ran a really impressive race.
Especially considering his choice of shoes.
The 24-year-old rapper, whose birth name is Montero Hill, ran 13.1 miles in two hours and 32 minutes. His 11:40 average mile pace was good for 23,058th overall and 649th of 685 people in his age group.
- 3.1 miles— 34:03, 10:58 pace
- 6.2 miles— 1:08:15, 11:01 pace
- 9.3 miles— 1:47:07, 12:31 pace
- 12.4 miles— 2:24:50, 12:09 pace
- FINISH— 2:23:53, 11:43 pace
While that might not seem brag-worthy, simply running that distance is a great feat. And speaking of feet, you should see what was on his!
Lil Nas X ran the NYC Half Marathon in a loosely-tied, old pair of designer high-top sneakers. They are not made for running.
When asked about the shoes, he said that they are “some random pair of Coach shoes” that he always wears for exercise, so he decided “why not?” Well, fair enough!
Lil Nas X ran from Brooklyn, over the bridge, through Lower Manhattan, SoHo and midtown, into Central Park in shoes that did not do him any favors. And he was all smiles afterward!
Montero Hill deserves a lot of credit for crossing the finish line. That is great.
To do so without looking especially tired or winded afterward is rather commendable. To do so while wearing a pair of Coach high-tops, which are not functional athletic sneakers by any stretch of the imagination, is even more so.
Shoutout to Lil Nas X…
Though it is hard to imagine that his feet did not hurt on Sunday afternoon into Monday morning. His choice of kicks was not even close to what anyone else on the course was wearing!
