Last night, March 11, Marcus King appeared as a musical guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The artist, known for his Southern rock tendencies, was there to promote his new Rick Rubin-produced album, Mood Swings, due on April 5 via American/Republic Records. During the broadcast, the musician ran through his new piano-driven “Delilah” as a preview of the impending collection. Watch below.
For King’s stage time on the late-night show, he embraced the essence of Elton John, donning tinted sunglasses that played off the red wash of overhead lights that illuminated the seated audience. Notably, last night’s performance was rather defining for the musician, who appeared for the first time at the piano, sans his signature axe.
King shared comments about the song, which will only be available as a live cut via The Tonight Show until the album’s drop next month, saying, “It’s a coming-of-age tale about learning how to love and how to allow yourself to stay still long enough to be loved.” He concluded, “There was no hiding behind the guitar at all.”
