Eagle-eyed social media users discovered that the director is currently following Selena Gomez, 31, on Instagram, despite his son-in-law’s tumultuous former relationship with the star.

One shared the realization on Reddit, opening up the topic to discussion by asking, “Why is Hailey’s dad following Selena?”

Many fans wondered if Stephen’s post hinted at problems in Justin and Hailey’s marriage after weeks of speculation that they were headed for divorce.

According to TMZ, Hailey wasn’t pleased with her famous father for seemingly airing their troubles on social media.

Days after her father’s strange post, Hailey shared several loved-up photos with Justin while celebrating his 30th birthday.
Fans noticed that the singer wasn’t wearing his wedding band in a black and white photo of him cradling his wife’s face and kissing her.
He was also ring-free while hugging Hailey and kissing her on a boat trip.
