Sydney Sweeney is on her way to becoming one of the biggest movie stars in Hollywood. Her rocket ship to the top of Hollywood’s A-list is so powerful, in fact, that she’s been able to overcome the disaster that was Madame Web.
Released in February, Madame Web was not only a commercial failure but is also regarded as being one of the worst superhero movies ever made.
Knowing this, the 26-year-old Anyone But You star made a joke about the failed film during her well-rounded monologue — she also made cracks about the frequent Glen Powell dating rumors and her upcoming role as a nun in the film Immaculate — while hosting Saturday Night Live over the weekend.
“You might have seen me in Anyone But You or Euphoria,” Sweeney said. “You definitely did not see me in Madame Web.”
That wasn’t the only self-deprecating joke that Sweeney made during her stint as SNL host, as the teasers for the episode also featured the actress joking about the reason why most of her fans are men.
In addition to her monologue, Sweeney’s sketch in which she played a Hooters waitress also received significant attention following the airing of the episode.
Following the massive success of Anyone But You and the gigantic let-down of Madame Web, Sweeney will next be seen starring in the mystery-horror film Immaculate, which she not only stars in but also produced.
Alongside Sweeney, Immaculate’s most notable cast member is Italian actress Simona Tabasco, who played a key role in season two of HBO’s hit series The White Lotus (Sweeney also starred in The White Lotus, albeit in season one).
You can check out both the official synopsis and official trailer for Immaculate, which will hit theaters on Friday, March 22, below.
“Immaculate follows Cecilia (Sweeney), a woman of devout faith who is offered a fulfilling new role at an illustrious Italian convent. Her warm welcome to the picture-perfect Italian countryside is soon interrupted as it becomes clearer to Cecilia that her new home harbors some dark and horrifying secrets.”
