Curb Your Enthusiasm star Richard Lewis died of a heart attack on Tuesday at the age of 76 years old. His longtime friend and co-star Larry David issued a sentimental message on his passing, which was shared by HBO.
The actor and comedian was a staple on the series, appearing in over 40 episodes across its 12 seasons, the most recent of which aired earlier this month. That includes the pilot, which ran more than two decades ago.
“His wife, Joyce Lapinsky, thanks everyone for all the love, friendship and support and asks for privacy at this time,” Lewis’ publicist Jeff Abraham said in a statement confirming the actor and comedian’s passing.
Lewis had recently been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, going public with the news last summer.
With him every step of the way was David, who Lewis called “the best friend you could ever imagine.” LD reiterated that relationship with a statement on Wednesday.
From Vanity Fair:
“Richard and I were born three days apart in the same hospital and for most of my life he’s been like a brother to me. He had that rare combination of being the funniest person and also the sweetest. But today he made me sob and for that I’ll never forgive him.”
Richard Lewis took a hiatus from Curb Your Enthusiasm in 2021 for health reasons but opted to make a return for the 12th and final season which is currently airing on HBO.
Lewis will be missed dearly by friends, fans, and family, particularly Larry David.
He can always be remembered, though, through the joy he brought viewers on-screen.
